Above average free First Person Shooter There are tons of First Person Shooter (FPS) games now available on Mac but SHADOWGUN: Deadzone is one of the better free offerings. Although like many games, it's enhanced by In-App purchases, the free version is good enough to keep you coming back for more.

Your goal is to clear all the bubbles from the board, scoring as many points as possible. You shoot at them with more bubbles, and when three or more of the same color come together, they all explode. Point your mouse to where you want the next bubble to go (the arrow at the bottom will indicate that direction), and click to fire the shot. The more bubbles blow up at one shot, the increasingly more points you gain (six ones at one shot is better than two three-bubble shots). Besides, those bubbles that fell apart from the rest will explode too. It is well worth trying to arrange such avalanches, as they will give you ten times more points than ordinary bursts.

If your shot fails to detonate any bubbles, you get a foul, and when there are several fouls, a new line of bubbles appears at the top. The number of misfires allowed before bubbles will advance again, is shown in the bottom left corner. Various skill levels differ by the number of shots that you are allowed to fire without success. There can be no draw in this game, either you clean all the bubbles off, or they move all the way down on you. It includes four great game modes, Arcade - for people who like quick action, Strategy - the classic mode, Sniper - if you are a good shooter and Marathon - mode with endless levels. Note that when you launch SHADOWGUN: DeadZone, you're warned that the content isn't suitable for those under 17. There's actually nothing in the game that most under 17 year-olds haven't seen before and the dying scenes don't show guts flying everywhere or anything.

N There's a tutorial at the beginning of the game which gives you the basic controls - i.e. WASD to move around and use the mouse button to shoot. Press R to reload. You can select to join an online game and you will be 'Spawned' into a World within less than 5-10 seconds. In Death-match mode, it's just a simple case of shoot-to-kill or be killed. However, once you've got the hang of hiding behind things and blowing other online opponents away, the game becomes quite addictive. The weapons you have are very limited. There is one grenade if you need it but annoyingly you can only upgrade weapons by upgrading to the Premium version.
