Want full root access to your Kindle Fire? UPDATE: Please see the Rooting your Kindle Fire allows you to get full control over your new tablet, allowing you to install rooted apps, install new ROMs, backup apps, and a whole lot more. Here’s how to root your Kindle Fire on Windows: (See for Mac or Linux) Step 1. Go to Settings->More->Device and make sure “Allow Installation of Applications” is checked “ON”. Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer via micro-USB cable. And hit “Disconnect” to turn off the USB disk drive mode.
Download KindleFireRoot.zip and unzip to the root directory of your hard disk such as c: KindleFireRoot. Open up a command prompt by typing “cmd” under Start->Search. Browse to the KindleFireRoot directory by typing: cd KindleFireRoot files Step 6. Type: adb devices Step 7.
You won’t see anything so you have to install the drivers. Open up Device Manager under Control Panel->Hardware and Sound. Double-click on Kindle and Update driver. Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”. Choose “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”. Choose “Show All Devices”. Choose “Have Disk”.
Go find the file android_winusb.inf under KindleRootFire usb_driver directory. Choose “Yes”. Choose “Install this driver software anyway”. You should now see “Android ADB Interface”.

Go back to command prompt and type: adb kill-server Then: adb devices You should get a bunch of numbers and letters, that’s the serial number of your Kindle Fire and you are ready to root. Runme.bat Your Kindle Fire should reboot and should be rooted. You can verify you have SuperUser app by going to Settings->More->Applications->All Applications. I am running into a few problems. First time I have tried to root, and would appreciate some help before I screw something up (or throw my computer out the window) 1.
Instead of saying Android ADB Interface in device manager I have Android Composite ADB Interface and a caution sign saying I need to restart my computer, but when I restart it doesn’t change anything 2. When I try adb devices in the command prompt I never get a serial number 3.When I try the runme.bat step it just says “waiting for device” and never changes Thanks.
Amazon releases free beta of Kindle for Mac eBook reading software By Thursday, March 18, 2010, 04:45 am PT (07:45 am ET) With Apple's eBook-capable iPad looming ominously in the face Amazon's fledgeling electronic book business, the online bookseller on Thursday released a new application for Mac users as part of its ongoing bid to promote its proprietary Kindle platform and prevent defection of its existing user base to a emerging array of alternatives. Released as for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and higher, the software allows Mac users to purchase and download from Amazon's growing catalog of over 450,000 eBooks without the need to purchase its $259 or larger $489 hardware. With the release, Amazon notes that Kindle books can now be read on many of the world's most popular digital devices, including the iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry, Windows PC, Mac, and soon the iPad.
'Kindle for Mac is the perfect companion application for customers who own a Kindle or Kindle DX,' said Jay Marine, director, Amazon Kindle. 'For those customers around the world who don't yet have a Kindle, Kindle for Mac is a great way to instantly access and read the most popular new releases as well as their old favorites.' Kindle for Mac features Amazon's Whispersync technology that automatically saves and synchronizes bookmarks and last page read across devices.
